I WAS RIGHT. I found a job, as a barista funnily enough. It’s not as romantic as it sounds, it’s a big corporate international operation. I am absolutely not looking forward to handing over my entire week, but this was always gonna be the job I landed, so there is no point in complaining about it. I might as well look forward to it. My first day of training is tomorrow and I’m finally going to watch a movie by myself tonight, which is something I have not done in months. I’ve been thinking about it a lot more while this piece sat uncompleted over the past several days (as I’ve been revising, for the third time around, my Three Transitions essay): I do miss academia and I think I would like to eventually go back. I needed to knock myself down a peg before I ventured into the world of academic publishing. It would’ve been a terrible idea to stay in school with the lofty notion that I’m gonna be a big shot book writer after I get my name printed in a journal or two. If I’m gonna go back, it’ll be for the love of the game.
